Back in the late 80’s and throughout the 90’s, it seemed like armed carjackings and car thefts were an olympic sport in Puerto Rico. One time, my uncle got almost carjacked, attempted of course cause he took the clown out his car, literally SAT ON HIM and waived for someone to call the cops. He caught a charge that was quickly dismissed. He mainly did this cause his daughter (a toddler at the time) was in the back seat. He probably would’ve just let the guy take the car otherwise as they were well off back then.

Puerto Rico has a law on its books that still stands today where from 11PM to 6AM you can basically make a “california roll” on any stop sign or stop light as long as nobody else is on the intersection. This was done because of carjackings.
