Possibly moving

I was in a similar situation OP. This isn't a direct answer to your question, but if you have any possibility of not moving here, I think it would be wise to avoid it. I've lived in many cities across the US in my life, San Antonio is multitudes worse than the second worst city I've lived in, it doesn't even compare. I'll get downvoted, but the people that defend this city have lived here most of their lives. It's a bias and they're blinded by pride.

Browse the subreddit for a bit, scroll back a few weeks/months and see how much crime and negativity is posted. Go to any similarly sized city's subreddit, and it's filled with "lost wallet found" "best place to go for hikes" etc. This sub is filled with "car stolen with baby inside" and "woman shot in face while grocery shopping." Again, the difference is in multitudes. You will feel it every day leaving the house. I feel really sorry for people who call this place home.
