My family member will be represented by a public defender, and frankly, I am terrified of him walking away without jail time for reasons that I won’t describe to “strangers on the internet.”

This court date has been rescheduled 3 times now and has changed judges and prosecutors hands many times. I know very little about the legal system, correct terminology, etc. What I do know is that he continues to use drugs and commit crimes, then magically walk away with a slap on the wrist.

I was simply seeking insight on how common it may be for charges of this nature to be dropped or amended in order to prepare myself. Pardon me for using a “legal advice” forum to do so.
