[Serious] Redditors whom have been disowned by your families: Why were you disowned and how was it like?

I grew up in a SUPER conservative Christian religion. Basically I was only allowed to date girls from the EXACT same religious beliefs. So even if the name of the Church was the same, if the beliefs were slightly different it was a no go.

Added to that all of the girls in my church and other acceptable churches wanted to date men who were not like their oppressive parents. So here I was only allowed to date girls who did not want to date guys from such a conservative faith (I do not blame them).

So I did not date at ALL for my entire youth. Finally at 19 I told my parents I wanted to date a Baptist girl from work. Literally they kicked me out and disowned me. Just because I wanted to date. It took YEARS before there was a reconciliation between us but they have never accepted the girls I dated even though they were all Christian.

Long story short they still do not have grand kids yet and I am well into middle age. I found the love of my life and we are fostering kids. I would say the worst part is that I was socially WAY behind women and my peers and it took a long time to learn how to build a successful relationship. I love Christianity but guys if you are going to be that hard on your kids at least have the decency to arrange some dates for them.
