Severe Weather Warning (updated 3pm)

" Weather Situation: A strong cold front is moving across the south of the State today. Windy ahead of the front. Cold squally winds, showers and possible thunderstorms with and following the front, continuing overnight and on Tuesday in a cold and unstable southwesterly airstream.

Strong to locally damaging northwesterly winds, averaging 40-60 km/h with gusts around 90 km/h are affecting some southern parts of the warning area, including on and to the east of the Mount Lofty Ranges ahead of the front.

Squally winds with localised damaging wind gusts are also possible across the warning area with and following the front, mostly with heavier showers or thunderstorms.

For Adelaide, the risk period for damaging winds is likely to be late afternoon to early evening with the period of heavier showers and possible thunderstorms near the front.

Behind the front, conditions become cold with scattered showers continuing overnight and on Tuesday, with isolated thunderstorms and small hail. For areas west of Spencer Gulf, southwesterly winds may be damaging at times, mainly near the coast and with showers or thunderstorms.

Locations which may be affected include Adelaide, Mount Barker, Victor Harbor, Maitland, Kingscote and Mount Gambier today; and Port Lincoln, Elliston, Ceduna and Wudinna overnight and Tuesday.

Strong northwest winds with gusts of 80-85 km/h have occurred at various locations today. The highest recorded gust so far is 91 km/h at Hindmarsh Island.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Move vehicles under cover or away from trees; * Secure or put away loose items around your property. * Stay indoors, away from windows, while conditions are severe.

The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 11:00 pm ACST Monday."
