Shore Scripts is Part of the Solution

Complaining about male privilege isn’t wrong... gut reaction? Weird thing to say. I’m not sure why you started your comment with that and then ended up agreeing. Maybe I missed intent or read wrong?. Mediocre white men are being chosen over talented BIPOC, disabled, LGBTS, and women. The thing is it’s rarely intentional. People hire friends or who they relate with. It’s not like men are out here trying to dominate everything. It just sometimes happens unintentionally.

The problem is women often take it too far. Maybe that’s what you assumed of me? I don’t know why you assumed that thought. I believe some male writers are just amazing. Mare of Easttown is an example. He wrote a woman character exceptionally. It’s when they aren’t amazing that they write really shitty women characters. I also don’t think every writing room needs women. Sausage Party is an example of a movie. Like it’s for men, about men.

When it comes to female topics though, men sometimes think they can say things like “this isn’t how a woman is”. Which is weird. I would never say as a straight woman “this gay man isn’t how gay men are”. I would have to trust you know what you’re doing.

I think men can write women. Just tired of mediocre writers doing it poorly. And very tired of feedback from men telling me I can’t write women realistically. Attack my script structure, lazy dialogue, etc. But when it comes to how a woman handles trauma, maybe leave that one be.
