should get into bbtag or cf?

BBCF is a "sports" game. Everything takes at least a little bit of training. Character movelists are heavily stylized, unique and complex. You pick one or two characters and use just them for years. It's all about self-improvement and showcasing your dedication to the game. The learning curve isn't a curve, but linear. It is hard work to get decent at anything, however you never reach a point at which you feel like you're not improving as much as before anymore. It's a game that you can play for a lifetime.

BBTag is a "toybox" game. Easy to pick up. Over a thousand possible team combinations. You can learn the basics of a handful of teams in a matter of weeks. Has lots of universal mechanics and similar input layouts across all characters. Lots of broken strategies. Plenty of advanced and execution-heavy mechanics too, but if you aren't trying to compete with the best of the best, then you don't really need to learn all them. The learning curve is an actual curve. You get decent enough to play against the average player quickly, but reaching top level will still be difficult and time consuming. It is in the middle ground between a casual game and an exclusively competitive one. Still something you can play for years, but might get bored of at some point.
