should i transfer?

Where you go to school does have somewhat of an impact. Transferring from a more prestigious university to a place without that reputation could raise some flags when it comes to applying for jobs. Having a degree from a more prestigious place while likely open more doors from you. English is a degree that is competitive and sometimes difficult to get a job in. So, I’d be careful...

That said, your mental health is very important. Have you tried joining clubs or even doing something social outside of school? Have you tried interacting with students in your classes? I was always the shy, introverted type, so it was difficult for me to make friends. If you make a friend in class you jive with, sometimes you’ve got to put yourself out there and invite them to something. The idea that friendships always happen “organically” isn’t necessarily true. They only happen when people decide to take a risk and try to see if the other person wants to hang out outside of class. I know it’s easier said than done, believe me. But friends are much easier to make in k-12 as an adult...so you have to take more risks. In grad school, one of my colleagues asked the class if they wanted to get dinner/drinks after class every Thursday. A bunch of people agreed, and we would meet up whenever they could. Going out on Thursdays gave me the opportunity to get to know other students, and some of my friends in grad school ended up becoming my best friends.
