[Siciliano] Mike Silver reports that Browns GM Sashi Brown says he's known for two weeks who he wants to take at #1.

I really think this means it's Garrett, and here is why.

  • We know for a fact that the Browns have been making trade-up offers and calls in the top 10. Most of the rumors have been with Chicago, New York, and the Titans.

  • The placement of these trade up talks is indicative of trying to get Trubisky in a trade-up scenario. Most credible and believable rumors have the Jets and Bills as the main candidates to draft Mitch ahead of pick #12. Trying to get to the #3,5, or 6 spot seems indicative of a Trubisky trade-up play. This is especially likely since the other guys in this range (hooker, adams, thomas) have a lot more uncertainty as to where they will be picked.

  • If we were to draft Mitch at #1 overall, I just don't think the Browns would want to waste draft capital trading up for a safety, especially in a very deep safety class. If we were to draft Mitch at 1, I think the best pick at #12 would be to pick Oj Howard to ensure Mitch has a great surrounding cast so that he can succeed.

  • If the Browns wanted to draft Trubisky so much with their first pick, we probably would have heard a lot more chatter about them trading down with that pick. We know from the Corey Coleman situation that they Browns are adept at knowing where they need to trade down to in order to get a guy they want. Unless they're dumb (they're not), they will realize they can at least swap picks with the 49er's for a 3rd round pick (just as an example) and still get Mitch. But in our current situation, Sashi already said he doesn't want to trade the #1 pick.
