Sidney Crosby having best season of NHL career

Realistically, his assists sound about right. He's had Sheary on his left and Hornqvist/Rust on the right. The kids are only in their second actual NHL season, and Hornqvist is a career 20 goal scorer anyway.

Through some insanely rough math, looking at his splits for PP/EV/SH, he's scoring at about the same rate even strength (on pace for ~62 EV points, career average roughly 60) and historically doesn't PK so not a lot of data there.

We all know his shooting percentage is insane right now, but I'd argue he's not really picking his shots. He's got 116 so far this year, so I'd safely assume he hits around 230-250 which is basically his career average for shot counts and going by the eye test, these aren't all lucky shots he's getting through.

The power play is the huge difference. Til now, he's been averaging (again very roughly) 10PPG-25PPA a season. This year he's on pace for around 20PPG-10PPA. Those 15 extra assists and ten less goals would change his projected numbers from 52-36-88 to 42-51-93 which is about in line with his career averages.

tl;dr : it's probably less that his linemates can't connect and more Crosby is pulling the trigger on the power play waaaaay more nowadays
