Slavoj Žižek says he would opt for Donald Trump as the apparently less dangerous choice in the US election

But the point of saying Sanders was our last chance is to emphasize the unique destructiveness of Trump that made Sanders our last chance in the first place. Otherwise, there would always be a choice between "option B" and "life-destroying asteroid" (sorry for the terrible analogy). The fact of Hillary's campaign is that we don't even have the option not to vote her because Trump is literally that bad, he is the asteroid, and that's where Zizek disagrees. Maybe I'm crazy for fraternizing with so many international banking friends, but the funny thing is that these bankers and genius derivatives analysts are basically coming to trend conclusions that are indistinguishable from cultural theory -- and one thing I am glad to be reminded of (by them) is that there is real tangible damage that a Trump candidacy would do on a global scale. And I would love to talk about it in depth, but I think it's far more likely that he would trigger a cascade of increased authoritarian power worldwide. It just doesn't substantiate Zizek's position that Trump is preferable simply because it would hold more possibilities -- because the deadlier ones are far more likely. I think it's right to say that Trump would create so much trauma that it would throw a lot of ideas into the air -- but the US runs such a major international apparatus that Trump is frightening not only for what it could do to the global progressive cause, but for the tangible loss of what could have been done otherwise during a progressive contest with Hillary instead.

I would just disagree with Zizek that Trump isn't the bigger danger to the left. As for Sanders, there are still meaningful X-factors out there where he might come into substantial play -- one example being Obama's activist post-presidency, which is a small chance for coalition. This is doubly true for any national level policy debate that hits the level of a "death panel" exchange of ideas. Basically I think even though Sanders failed, we are still in a meaningful latency that is not so different from Occupy.
