The Smoking Tire - Mercedes G63 AMG - (Angeles Crest Hwy) One Take

It's just outlandish and not very refined. The g-wagon is probably my favorite series and as much as the kid in me wants one, it's not worth it's money.

I'm sure it's still capable, it's fast, etc. It looks unique, but it's not all that functional. I found one on RelayRides like 2 months back and took one for a day for $350. It's like sitting in an elevated 90s model C class with a modern console. It's fast in a straight line, but I'm sure Matt having it for 3 days will tell you, wind noise is pretty significant for a 140k car once you go past 70. Again, not refined. The new Range Rover is like a Rolls Royce, it's built in the same quality as a modern S-Class. It's refine, it's quiet, it's fast on the road, and capable off road. You're getting the most for your money. Even an ML63, Cayenne, etc is better bang for your buck if your criteria is to drive it on the road, elevated seating position, and fast, except it can't offroad like a G Wagon can.

I don't think the G Wagon is only unique for the reasons Matt described. I think the G63 specifically is unique for the reasons Matt described because you're putting a motor designed for going fast in a body that's physically impossible for it to go fast. The G Wagon is a capable off roader. It's a classic body on frame chassis, it has 3 locking diffs, etc. The G-Wagon is a luxury and refined Rubicon is pretty much what it is. For the money, you're not going to get your money's worth on the road. People buy this vehicles for all the wrong reasons, but one reason why I think the G63 is more readily seen recently in large metros is because it's only 20k more than a G550. I would imagine if you had the money to buy it, that extra 20k probably doesn't mean much and you'd get a significantly faster vehicle. Logically it's dumb, but the idiot in me would opt for the bigger motor.
