Elon Musk is like the light of light that occurs when you have an explosion, it’s beautiful but it isn’t worth the accompanying destruction.

One ultra-rich guy who has taken a liking to futurism isn’t worth the cost to society that creating thousands of ultra-rich has placed on resources.

• For example the same policies that allowed Musk to accumulate enough money to fund his forward looking companies also allowed several other ultra rich people to buy enough politicians to make climate change denial a widely held position in many countries.

• Rather than hope on the modern day equivalent of a benevolent dictator deciding to fund science, I would rather see a givput into a strong social safety net, effective mass transit and modern urban planning, and clean energy infrastructure.
