As someone with weak ties to my ancestors, I find it difficult sometimes to incorporate their traditions into my practice. It feels like I ought to though

I understand your tug and pull with this matter. I come from a family line myself that I'm not too proud of.

My advice, try to focus your ego self from thinking that you're stuck to a certain tradition or area of connection based on your heritage. It doesn't matter where you're located, your ancestors will always be reachable. Another thought as well, ancestors doesn't mean blood line. There's many types of ancestors that you can be connected with, so I suggest exploring that if you're not comfortable with blood relatives just yet. A book that I strongly recommend reading is Magickal Mediumship: Partnering with the Ancestors for Healing and Spiritual Development, it helped myself realize how to heal my family line and connect with other types of ancestors.
