[SPOILERS] Kylo Ren's casting. Amazing.

One of my favorite scenes was when Kylo Ren was interrogating (or attempting to interrogate) Rey.

This 3-4 minute scene develops Kylo Ren's character in a big way. It's the first scene where we get to see the face behind the mask, and it also shows us more about who Kylo Ren truly is.

"You mean the murderers, traitors, and thieves you call friends? You'll be relieved to hear I've no idea."

This shows Kylo Ren as someone who truly believes in his cause. He doesn't consider his motives as evil, but sees his enemies as evil.

Next, he takes off his mask. I love Rey's reaction to it. She doesn't know what to expect, but her initial reaction is shock. She's shocked but she's not necessarily scared. If anything, she seems less scared than she was before. She doesn't see a monster. She sees a regular, human, vulnerable, maybe even handsome young man.

Kylo Ren puts his helmet in his gigantic ashtray (wtf Abrams?), but before he gets down to business, he wants to learn more about his new enemy. He pries into her thoughts and memories, and learns about her past, and who she is. When he tries to get the map out of her, she pushes back and ends up reading his mind. She learns what drives him to commit such evil deeds.

Now that they've both had a glimpse of each others minds, this adds an interesting and unique dynamic to the relationship between the story's heroine and villain. Perhaps Kylo Ren will continue to try to bring Rey to the dark side, while Rey attempts to bring Kylo Ren to the light. This will definitely set the tone for the conflict between Rey and Kylo Ren for the rest of the trilogy.

Anyway, Kylo Ren is definitely my favorite new character. Sure, fans are painting him as ragey and emo, but I think he kicks ass. I like villains who struggle with their own inner conflicts.

I like the emphasis on Kylo Ren's gift with "Force Telepathy". His gift is unique from any other Star Wars character who is strong with the force, even Master Yoda. I hope that's what initially drove him to the dark side. Perhaps he read Luke's mind and witnessed his battle with Vader, and started to believe in Vader's cause. Or maybe he came into contact with Luke's repressed darkness, which corrupted him.
