State of the Oilers Franchise: Post Deadline

Oilers Lineup one assuming Roy and Lander are re-signed and Nurse and Draisaitl play in Bakersfield which some people want to see happen regardless but I believe should be determined by their readiness.

Hall/Pouliot, Nugent-Hopkins, Eberle

Hall/Pouliot, Roy, Yakupov

Purcell, Lander, Pitlick

Hendricks, Gordon, Klinkhammer

Klefbom, Schultz

Marincin, Fayne

Ference, Nikitin

Goalies: Scrivens and Free agent/Trade acquisition

With this team I envision Nuge/Eberle and Roy/Yakupov as the pairings with Pouliot and Hall being able to rotate between pairings.

We've all seen how effective the 3 kids can be cycling the puck together but have also seen Nuge and Eberle find success with Pouliot as the big bodied, retrieve the puck and go to the net player on their line.

Hall is the type of player who likes to posses the puck and drive the play himself pairing with Yakupov and Roy gives him players that can keep up with him and drive the zone. Hall gives Yakupov someone to take advantage of his passes which should also open up his shooting options. Roy has played well this season but is not a great defensive player but fortunately with the strides both Hall and Yakupov have made in their games defensively this line shouldn't be completely over matched defensively.

The third line is still mostly unproven but there is potential there for success. I'm not the bigest Purcell fan but he does have some versatility. I think can be a useful role player particularly as long as he's kept off the teams top two lines. The real x factor here is Lander and Pitlick. Both Lander and Pitlick are not yet established NHL players although they both appeared to be well on their way to solidifying themselves before being slowed by injuries. Matt Fraser should also receive an opportunity to make this line which would move Purcell to the right wing but I don't think Fraser has the upside of Pitlick particularly as a third line player.

The Hendricks, Gordon and Klinkhammer line I don't think I need to talk about too much. We've all seen what they've brought to the Oilers this year. They should be a solid unit that the Oilers coach can lead on against a tough assignment or as a unit to throw out there for a solid shift to get the team going.

The defense:

Klefbom and Schultz have been an improved pairing this year with Klefbom greatly helping Schultz game. Ideally they're a second pairing and they would be a promising one at that but this is the team as it is so it's what they've got.

Marincin and Fayne: Marincin really needs more opportunity to prove himself at the NHL level. Fayne has bee the Oilers most consistent defenseman and this pairing has had some success as a unity so they're a natural fit.

Ference and Nikitin: yeesh

Goalies: Scrivens and ? Scrivens has had an up and down season and at his best I'm not convinced he's a legitimate starting goaltender this is another real area of weakness for the team.
