do you support Ukraine?

You might not be here for a debate, but you are here to try to influence others' views. If this were an innocent question, you wouldn't add in the personal opinion I quoted (which aligns with Russian propaganda) at all, let alone stated as fact.

America hasn't forced Canada to choose a side. Canada is strongly in support of Ukraine due to at least three factors:

  1. Large Ukrainian population.

  2. General opposition to Russia's actions over the past decade + against Western nations.

  3. Strong opposition to countries invading and taking the territory of other nations.

America may influence us like Russia influences their neighbours, but that's where the comparison ends. America doesn't invade us. America doesn't support violent internal conflicts on our territory. And the latter points are the specific issues here. Every powerful country has influence on its neighbours. But they don't all invade those neighbours. That's the issue, not the influence.

Ukraine has previously been part of the USSR, and has ethnic Russian populations. But they are independent now, like many other former USSR republics, and other neighbouring countries that were under de facto control of the USSR. A major factor in that being the status now is the decades of experience of what it was like to be under the control of the USSR and not wanting that to continue.

The reason Russia now is being compared to Germany then is because Russia is invading an annexing the territories of their neighbours. That's the same thing Germany did and allowing them to continue doing that is exactly what led to WWII. There are other things which are different between Russia and Germany, and there are similarities between Russia/Ukraine now and other conflicts. But the comparison is with one specific pattern of actions that also occurred in the lead up to WWII. The Western world, including Canada, saw this exact pattern before and lost many lives in the resulting conflict.

NATO is a voluntary organization. Countries are joining because of the threats to them Russia demonstrably poses. It's why Finland is now trying to join.

Actually, the further I read, the more you're moving into blatant propaganda. Claiming the West couldn't defend Ukraine if it wanted, despite being far more powerful than Russia; claiming Europe doesn't want to support Ukraine despite widespread support; claiming Canadians would be forced to fight in Ukraine despite nothing close to that being even considered; claiming this is a result of Ukraine supporting their leader, and finally, claiming that they should negotiate peace with Russia which really just means giving up their territory and waiting for them to try to take more.
