Sweden's fika

The problem with modern Standard Arabic is that it already paints you as an outsider.

Arabic is more a language family than a single language compared to other languages.

Each region has a distinctive dialect and pronunciations and modern standard Arabic is an awkward/formal language that theoretically allows you communicate with all Arab regions and ignores dialect pronunciations and vocabulary.

It's like English legalese being used instead of actual English.

So even if you study modern standard Arabic, you will struggle to understand Saudi/gulf Arabic.

It's a shame the situation in Israel is the way it is, and the Israeli government removing Arabic from its official languages.

Maybe one day things will change and you can get native Arabic Palestinians to help with Arabic instead of reading through books :)
