High school is a four year long masquerade where you have to wear your happy face mask to every class, because every teacher's course is the most important one. And get a sex change if you're stuck in a rah-rah neo-feminist's class. Your 25% participation grade depends on it, and Harvard doesn't like A minuses.

The disgusting levels of kiss-assery high school was built upon led me to be a miserable, solid B- student in all subjects. My math teacher tried to dissuade me from going forward with studying math. Two years of college later, with its (more) objective grading measures, lack of busy work, and actually intellectually stimulating classes and activities, I got accepted with full fellowship to the top math PhD program, which I excelled at and a few years later and now have a kick-ass research job. No thanks to any high school teacher (besides maybe the chem one, she was decent).
