Tech Support thread (2016-11-28)

Hey guys, so this is probably not the best subreddit for this considering the equipment in question is a simple vizio 38" sound bar with wireless sub and 2 satellite speakers (model s3851x-c4). Unfortunately I'm not sure where else to take the question, hopefully I'm not asking a repeatedly asked question.

I had set up the equipment, ps4 connected to my tv via hdmi, soundbar connected via optical cable. Using this method, and ensuring the ps4 was set to dolby as preferred audio output, the dolby light on the soundbar does not light up. However if I go and watch a surround sound movie on netflix I hear it in all speakers, if I do a 5.1 test from youtube it plays through each speaker and lfe (the test does test each speaker).

I assumed youtube wasn't the best test so I got curious and plugged directly from ps4 to soundbar via optical and set it to dolby 5.1, now the dolby light on the soundbar comes on. Except now the satellite speakers don't work when doing the 5.1 test from youtube, or watching a moving on netflix. The sub works. Lfe does not either according to the youtube video. If I do a speaker test from the soundbar's remote, all speakers work. From the main menu of the ps4 I can hear them working.

So after that lengthy explanation I'm hoping I am not making some silly mistake or am just expecting something wrong. But what gives??

Thanks for any help!
