Texas Republican Wants to Legalize Pot Because "God Doesn't Make Mistakes"

Before I get into it I just want to say that even with all our disagreement, I would like to say that I have no ill will towards you at all. Discourse is important between religious and non-religious I believe, even if those people will not see eye to eye on everything.

You are basically saying that knowing the context means cherry picking.

No. I am saying you talk about Jesus like he has a message of peace. The only way to make the message of Jesus a message of peace is to cherry pick.

God is the energy of love.

Unprovable statement. Just an assertion.

Well that makes sense to me. No matter how much I love even my family, I know that they aren't perfect and have done plenty of malicious things in their lives.

You did not address my point. If you have to love a single person more than anyone else just to be considered worthy that is a Cult.

So lets use that logic for minute, you have to love this single person known as Jesus more than anyone else or you are unworthy. You are saying the Jews are not worthy. A whole group of people are unworthy. This is Divisive, not unifying. And do not try to pull out the Jesus was a Jew card, because that does not matter if the Jews will not believe in Jesus. If they do not believe in Jesus then they can not love him. If they cannot love him more than anyone else in the world then they are unworthy. Therefor the Jews are unworthy in the eyes of Jesus. Anyone who chooses to interpret the message this way,and people do, will believe people who do not love Jesus to be unworthy people. This leads to issues as history clearly has shown.

This is what happens when you examine the message of Jesus critically with out Cherry Picking. You can analyze other aspects of the Jesus message as well, and I like some of what Jesus has to say, but you cannot ignore certain things and still say you follow the message of this person. You will have to say "you follow certain precepts from Jesus" if you want to ignore the bad things.

Ah yes, because my take on religion totally is based on assumptions. I have refuted nearly everything you've said thus far, so what are you still saying?

I am saying belief with out evidence is detrimental to human society. We need to focus on what can be proven and use it to the betterment of all people. And yes, even the unworthy ones... The message of Jesus is a detrimental to human society. The message of Jesus should just be dropped. We can make our own morality and we do not have to love this one person more than anyone else to do it.

In regards to a Ayahuasca retreat, sure I would love to do that. But altering my perception temporarily will not have any bearing on the truth value of that altered perception. It just means my perception is altered. I am not saying there can be no benefits from an altered perspective, but we have to be cautious in what we consider to have truth value. Truth does not matter to you I know, but it is everything to me.
