Why is there so much hate towards women on reddit?

I would say most of the subreddits I’m in don’t tolerate much misogyny. It’s there but not accepted. I wander over to a few others though and eesh.

I’m older now too (mid 30s). The misogyny of the internet used to bother me more when I was younger and I used to get targeted for harassment more.

Even in real life I would say the men I encounter seem more thoughtful and open to what I have to say than they were a decade ago (grain of salt since this is just my personal anecdotal experience).

Just went on a first date with a guy and I got into a spiral talking about all the creepy experiences I’ve had online dating (this was, uh, a kinky date, so filtering out creeps was extra important). Ten years ago when I did the same thing, guys would get mad at me for having concerns for my safety. One verbally dressed me down so badly and painfully I was kind of messed up for awhile afterwards. It was nice going out with this guy yesterday because he was so patient and really listened and said “I can’t imagine what it’s like to be a woman dating online especially kinky. I hear you.”

So I guess what’s weird is in general I encounter more men who get it more often anymore and this gives me hope for the world but god is it out there and terrible.
