Why there is no quick fix for the gender pay gap

I don't know. I'd hope so, it certainly should be. I believe Iceland has just become "the first country" to make it illegal to pay men more than women, so if they're the first, it sounds like it isn't against the law.

What does "legal" even mean though? I mean, The Equality Act says sex discrimination is illegal, but let's face it, if an employer has two candidates for a job, both exactly the same - qualification, age, experience etc, but one is male and one is female, who is more likely to be offered the position? It's usually the guy, because the employer knows that she is more likely to require time off, paid, for maternity and the costs involved with that - cover etc.

You see the gap across a seriously wide range of sectors though. I'm not of the opinion that it's a "myth". It's definitely there.
