Your instinct is correct. I would recommend you be a part of the training with a personal trainer. My advice is to interview the person before giving them any money to make sure your values align and that you like their style.

Austin is a big city so you should be able to find someone you connect with, it just might take awhile to sift through all the “dog trainers.” Group classes won’t help with your issues so I would focus on spending the time and money on the a private trainer. For the future: unless your puppy is a danger to the other dogs, you should be able to find a group class that accommodates her needs. Ours put up sight blockers for our puppy when he was too disruptive/reactive.
