My new puppy has parvo :(

I'm so sorry to hear about your puppy.

My family and I were able to nurse our Parvo puppy back to health all on our own.

What we did:

  • We kept him hydrated with IV fluids provided to us by the vet and gave him the fluids as recommended.
  • Pepto-Bismol. Before his feedings, we'd mix a tablet of Pepto-Bismol mixed with Pedia-lyte and syringe feed the mixture to him. That helped to settle his stomach so he could keep food down.
  • We syringe-fed him a mixture of Pedialyte and blended rice. He HATED it, but the key is to keep him hydrated with nutrients. Try to feed your 1 syringes 3 a day OR 2 syringes twice a day. If she throws up during a feeding, just clean it up and keep feeding her.
  • She may get worse before she gets better, but again the key is to keep her well-hydrated and fed (even if she feels like she doesn't want to eat) while the virus moves through her system.

My family has owned 4 puppies and this was our first Parvo one. It was very scary so I know how you feel. Our guy was sick for about 2-3 days before he started perking up and eating his own food again on the 4th day. He is now 4 years old, healthy, and thriving.

Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.
