Something very similar happened to me on my first couple days when I worked at my first job (mcdicks) A bunch of us had just gotten hired. The staff that had already been working there were aloud to freely take a bottle of water or grab a large drink from the soda machine whenever they were thirsty. The new hires apparently weren't and I had no idea. I thought it was okay, so as I'm in backbooth and there are no cars, I ran to the front and grabbed a bottle of water. I noticed a girl from the original staff talking quietly with the shift manager on duty. It was extremely obvious they were talking about me. The shift manager came to the window and scolded me right in front of a customer. Claiming that I had been stealing and that if I didn't pay for it, I was not aloud to take a lunch break or get my free lunch break meal. At one point the customer in the window asked if I needed the money to pay for it. I had never been so embarrassed in my life. I put the dollar on the counter and walked out. (There had been other problems, this was just the icing on the cake) I didn't see how it was fair that some employees could quench their thirst and others could not. I even mentioned the fact that the girl she had been talking to took a bottle of water not even minutes before I did and nothing was mentioned to her. People can be dicks, man.
