Time to take the bull by the horns

Yes! Outside Rochester, MN.

Rochester, MN is a city of 120,000 and is the home campus of Mayo Clinic, the #1 hospital in the United States. It is not only a great hospital, but actually cheaper than average. Minnesota is a state with very strong social programs.

There is great hiking in the region, wonderful nature, backyard chickens are allowed in city limits (you can have them in states where it snows), and gardening culture is strong.

If you don't want to live in Rochester, Mantorville, Kasson, Pine Island, Oronoco, Marion, and Chatfield are all great options.

The only downside is that it's not solid woods, but you'll find them in many directions.
