It's today. And it's called Silent Spring.

Thanks. I also agree almost certainly the album isn't being released today- note I'm only predicting an announcement, not a release- but an announcement that may hopefully include as much as a tracklist, or even a single/video, and at the bare minimum will include the "Silent Spring" name of the project and the projected date on which we can expect it.

If they say it won't be out till October or next year, that would surprise me. I think given the "spring" title and the dates in May, it will probably be released in May. Maybe not. But some sort of announcement will be made today, of something about LP9.

I think the March 20 announcement followed by a May release makes sense in light of the failure of most fans and critics to understand or even give a fair hearing to King of Limbs. I don't think Radiohead will try again to release any album- let alone the complex, possibly dark, politically oriented double album that LP9 might turn out to be- without first preparing the ground with a carefully managed hype campaign- interviews, perhaps some as-yet-unannounced live sets with free tickets (like 93 Feet East, pre-In Rainbows) or even webcasts. And probably a single/video. They won't just say "hey all, it's coming in five days" and then drop it on the fourth, preceded by the video on the third. That was incomprehensible to too many people- nobody liked having to form their own impression of Limbs, they were angry Radiohead did a David Lynch and refused to explain what they should think.

So I believe they will announce it today and then slowly create the context for understanding the music over the next month before finally releasing the actual music. It's a shame that is necessary, but Limbs' reception, although at least decently predictable (and not actually remotely negative- just less than enthusiastic) among most critics, was disastrous among fans, a disturbing sign of the fanbase's conservatism. Thom has hinted at just how unexpected that reception was. He has also said both the release method of Limbs (note- NOT THE ALBUM) and that of his solo project Tomorrow's Modern Boxes were botched, and that hints a more traditional release method may be likely- announce, build a context to understand the work, then release the work.
