Why is the toner so hot?!

Did an edit because the formatting was kind of blocky.

Got an interesting toner request from our fairly new receptionist that read as follows:

User$: "Please can someone come down to help us with replacing the toner? I wanted to do it myself, but the ‘new’ toner we have is covered in a yellowish powder, so I’m not sure if it can be used or not."

My first thought was 'it's a colour printer and they haven't told me which toner has run out', but ah well, that's pretty standard people do that all the time.

My second thought was 'where did they get a toner, we keep them all in our office, and why is it covered in yellow powered? Has it leaked?'.

It gets better when I go to the printer, to find it's been semi disassembled and they seem to have a random used waste toner box (that isn't even for their printer) and not a cartridge at all. The next thing I discover is that the user had opened the side of the printer, unclipped and pulled out the fuser thinking it was a cartridge which she then tried to replace with the waste toner box.

She asked me while I stood there dumbfounded why the toner cartridge was so hot, then got stroppy with me when I asked why she had taken the printer apart.

TLDR: User wanted to replace their own toner, but instead pulled out the fuser and tried to replace it with a used waste toner box that wasn't for that printer.
