Too cold to camp mid April?

I backpack camp for “mountain” turkey hunting and have had it get down to about 15 degrees. A few things I’ve discovered: 1.) rain gear-pants, gaiters, hat, jacket, lightweight umbrella, and a lightweight rain fly. If your core clothing gets wet you will be miserable. Absolutely no cotton clothing. 2.) Hammock camping with a proper cold weather sleeping bag is a lot better than a tent. “Cocoon” the sleeping bag around the hammock as opposed to laying directly on it as it will compress the insulation underneath you. 3.) Hot water from a stove(jet boil) helps immensely. Soups, teas, and filling a water bottle with hot water and stuffing it in your sleeping bag can get you through the night. 4.) Do not rely on campfires, hot hands packets, or electric hand warmers for warmth. 5.) Consume an insane amount of calories. 6.) Don’t be afraid to get the fuck out and back to civilization. Dying because of toxic masculinity or “gutting it out” is dumb.

This is an extreme level, but I feel a lot this can be applied to car camping. Also, if anybody wants to experience one hell of a turkey hunt feel free to DM me.

Cheers.
