Trailer park boys fear they will have to stop shooting the show in NS

  • The film industry was around $6m in 1993, before the credit. This past year it was $139m.

  • $25m credit = $139m. Tell me another government program that has that high rate of return.

  • The money is taxes not charged, not money given back.

  • The quote from the Liberals, "99 per cent of funds from this tax credit are being paid directly to companies that don’t owe taxes in Nova Scotia" is political spin. This is how I am almost sure they're cutting the credit - they are purposely misleading the public so they support the cut. "Owing taxes" has nothing to do with this credit. This is scary manipulation of stats.

  • The Liberals and Diana Whalen are not only on record supporting the credit, they've campaigned to increase the amount. As recently as last fall.

  • This is now officially a ploy to fool Nova Scotians into thinking the Liberals are saving money to balance the budget. If you follow their rhetoric, we're spending $25/26m each year on the industry and we should lessen or cut that "expense." In reality, it's income that isn't coming in, not an expense. And if it is cut, productions won't shoot here. So while we may avoid missing out on $25m of income by cutting the credit, if fewer productions shoot here, we will miss out on a lot more economic activity. 2000 people living and working here, contributing to our economy.

  • To reiterate: this is not money NS is losing. It is an incentive for productions to shoot here and continue growing an industry that, at this point, is poised to bring $150m to NS this year. But that will not happen if the credit is cut.

  • Saskatchewan's minister is on record saying cutting their credit was a huge mistake and it gutted their industry.
