Turns out literacy is just barely a requirement for NIMBYs

It’s not just here, they are building condos everywhere all around Santa Cruz. Before you know it, it’s going to be just like Santa Barbara or some other yuppy city. The developers are pushing out small mom and pop retail, and bringing in shit like Dunk’n Doughnuts and other lame chains all over the county. While the individual single family homes aren’t going to solve the problem, building more condos won’t either, and this city is going to be infested with them before you know it. Check out the installation at Firefly Cafe someone put together when you have a chance, it’s pretty astounding how many new hotels and ugly condo buildings are popping up. I think the single family homes would at least adhere to what Santa Cruz was, and while I am not a NIMBY activist, I sympathize with them as someone that has lived here my entire life. It’s frightening how much has changed just within the last few years. Everything I once knew is closing. I just found out that the Riverfront cinema closed and Planet Fresh closed last month. It’s sad. Look at that big condo that was built on front street that has all vacant retail buildings. There’s only so much you can build up against being priced out.
