Twenty One Pilots - Fairly Local [rap/alt rock]

There's a comment on Youtube that I found intriguing. I'll quote it for you:

Tyler has spoken in interviews about how he really doesn't like the idea of releasing singles. He has always written bodies of work and released them all at once. He has also spoken about how working with producers on this upcoming album was a struggle at first because they just didn't 'get it'. He had to take them to a live show before they truly understood what he was trying to create. He also said directly on twitter 'if you think you know what's coming after hearing one song, nope knope noughp'. In the video we have two things that occur that I find important. First, the visual imagery of Josh's (didn't anyone notice his eye liner? haha) drum kit being picked away piece by piece. I feel like this is meant to symbolize the over simplification of their music that is also being represented in this song itself (lack of unique instrumentation, simple song structure, lacking dramatic transitions, repetitive lyrics, and basically no rapping). This song represents what outside forces (The Mainstream) want Twenty One Pilots to sound like. In this way it is a rebellion, a statement against that square box and the desire to make TOP a perfectly square peg to fit ever so nicely into it. The second is the line 'yo this song will never be on the radio, even if my clique were to pick and the people were to vote'. He knows the clique; he says his work, including this album, is for us... why would he make something we don't want to hear? Tyler's lyrics through all his albums seem to deal with a similar theme in my opinion: faith. I think, in a way, he's testing our faith, The Cliques faith. He wants to separate the real fans, The Clique, (those of us who read all his lyrics, who discuss and debate their meanings, who see the purpose/the message behind the music) from the casual listener (who heard Car Radio on MTV and think they understand everything about what Twenty One Pilots is about). I think the album will be nothing like this song. Dare I say... this song might not even be played in concert on their upcoming tour. This song is a red herring, a test of faith, and a message to those of us in The Clique. Tyler has said this is our band, as much as it is his, and I trust that he has a lot more to say... only 2 months away.
