Anthony Mackie didn't know he was an Avenger until he saw "Age of Ultron."
That is a horrible example, he always had the information available, it's nobody's fault that most 9 year old's had more information on the character than him. Maybe if Mackie knew how to use Google...

I presume they were trying to find out if they could get away with something like this, then they would just take other movies and start changing titles, add 2 references in post and you have a new movie in the series.
At this point it is beyond me why you would ever defend this scheme. I wasn't expecting Cloverfield 2, but what about people who were? Is that they're own fault or something? that they got fooled in to seeing a completely different movie.
As for the actors, they may have simply been kept in the dark, as much of the cast was for the original.
And also the director.. and audience, to the point, as I said before, that this movie had only two references and both were added in post. That's not an anthology movie, there is no connection. You keep saying that this was planned before and everyone was just kept in the dark when there are a lot more pointing to the fact that they didn't know what to do with the movie and just shoehorned it in Cloverfieldverse. Nobody has ever said that this was planned before movie was complete, I know it wasn't, I know it, I know marketing schemes and misleading trailers studios have released before, I know the industry too well not see this, sooner or later somebody is going to talk, either Abrams or director, somebody. I will find that evidence, I have every single actor saying that it was just and indie movie without a title and I know that is correct, between finishing shoot and releasing the movie someone decided to f-ck with people, that is not ok even if everyone here loves JJ too much to admit that he would ever take part in this scheme.
