The universe

I don't know if you realize it, but you're paraphrasing an argument that's frequently used by Christian creationists: "The Big Bang theory says something came from nothing!"

Oh, gosh! Golly gee! Well, I wouldn't want to be associated with that <GROUP ASSUMED TO BE OF INFERIOR STATUS>, now would I? I recant, Inquisitor! I recant! I don't want to be burned as a witch!

The Big Bang refers to a period of the rapid expansion of the universe, it does not try to explain how the universe came into being.

[Emphasis mine.]

You must see my point then; the assumption that matter is fundamental remains an assumption. A root belief. Even physics calculations break down and cannot even describe it.

It's much less supernatural to see so called matter as an emergent property of consciousness, more in line with the idea that we are part of complex simulation--a thought experiment, if you will.

What does that even mean?

You must not be up on some of the latest ideas going around, based partly on the work of theoretical physicist James Gates.
