User in /r/ games posts link to a game for free on Steam, witch hunt ensues as comments accuse OP of being the developer and using the subreddit to secretly market the game. Their proof? He described it as "deep and emergent."

Well, it isn't immoral, or indecent, or rude, or inconsiderate. At worst, it's an insignificant trifle for the regular users of the subreddit.

How the fuck is a small time creator of entertainment media supposed to find an audience? The web is a great equalizer, where one doesn't need to spend thousands to expose one's product to new people.

The fucked up thing about this /hailcorporate style witch hunt is that these fuckers are shitting on the little guy, a small time independent developer who just want to give his game away so others may enjoy it. Meanwhile you see these same gamer nerds froth at the mouth as they discuss how great [insert AAA big-budget game here] is and how everyone should buy it now.

They aren't fighting for consumers' rights, they aren't fighting against corruption, they aren't fighting exploitation, they are fighting someone for "ruining" their precious fucking Reddit experience.

Maybe if nerds like this spent as much energy fighting against real injustices in the world as they spend harassing starving artists then we might actually be able to make the world a better place. Witch hunts like this, however, make the world a much worse place for everyone. Fuck that!

I'd like to see any of these self-righteous dicks make any creative product and try to reach an audience without engaging in self-promotion.

Creating art, music, drama, games, literature, etc can be a very difficult life filled with self-doubt and disillusion. Shitting on someone for trying to share their hard work (for free even) is a sure fire way to kill the enthusiasm someone has for their craft, and that is one of the worst pains you can inflict on someone.
