Warrick Dunn, a True Hero: You will never hear this from the media

Saying that race doesn’t matter in this context is the same as denying that black people have a different experience in life from white people and other people of other ethnicities because of their skin colour and that just isn’t true at all. A lot of the time, and probably what I imagine would feel like most of the time, people with black skin in the USA and Asian countries have more negative life experiences as a result of the colour of their skin than good experiences. That is what racism is, when people treat you less favourably because of the colour of your skin, without knowing literally anything else about you. “Less favourably” might not sound that bad, but it really is when unfavourable treatment manifests as you being 2.6 times more likely to be killed by the police because you are black than if you were white. Notice how the person above you spoke about justice, it really is a matter of justice that when someone wrongs you you want them to admit that it happened. If you sweep things under the carpet then those bad feelings don’t go away. We are divided because we do experience life differently, but the divide can be overcome if we take the time to try to understand how people’s life experiences match up to our own then we can better understand each other. I hope this has been helpful to you, it must seem crazy to hear people shouting all over the place about something and not understanding what the whole fuss is about. Hope this sheds some light on the matter.
