Weekly Questions Thread. Please post your School, A&P Certification and Job/Career related questions here.

I'm currently in the Army and looking to get out once my service obligation is up. Without getting into specifics, I have a desk job. I don't feel fulfilled, and I want to actually have some outputs to show for my inputs. Like "I fixed this" or "I built this" rather than "I turned your PowerPoint slide green, boss. Here you go." Seems like a university aviation mechanic program would be a good use of my GI bill. Anyway, here are my questions:

  1. Why do you like your job? Do you get up in the morning excited to go to work?

  2. Would you say your peers feel similarly to you, or are you an outlier?

  3. What are the main drawbacks of your job?

  4. Are the pay and benefits good enough for you to live comfortably? By that I mean do you have enough pay and benefits for food, shelter, utilities, healthcare, retirement savings, and a bit left over for some modest recreation? I know mechanics aren't wealthy and I'm fine with that. But I also don't want to be poor.

  5. Are there opportunities for pay and responsibility increases?

  6. If I don't quit the Army completely is the industry friendly to National Guardsmen and Reservists?

I know this is a lot of questions, but I appreciate you all taking the time.
