Welcome to Realiti: Going Deep Into Art Angels

Why does your article (I assume you wrote it) say Aristophanes is "rapping in Thai"? Is it really that fucking hard to do basic research? And are you really so unfamiliar with geography you think Thai is the language of Taiwan? Do you know what Taiwan is? It is something completely unrelated to Thailand, which is where Thai is spoken. The beginning of the word "Canada" sounds like "can," which is the pronunciation of a famous place in France, Cannes. Does this mean that if you hear that a music artist is Canadian, you say they are from Cannes, France? You just did the same kinda thing. Wikipedia can help. A fucking map can help. Even if you deleted your Safari and Maps apps on your phone so you had no way to research, what kind of disgrace of a millennial cannot tell the difference between spoken Chinese languages and, say, Thai? You never saw any of the popular Thai horror movies, or one of the crazy Grimes-y art films of Apichatpong Weerasethakul (Uncle Boonmee won the top award in Cannes Film Festival, speaking of Cannes)?? As for Taiwan, you never heard of Ang Lee? Shu Qi? You never heard the Mandarin language in any movies? I mean it's not like mainland China- which also speaks it- has not been funding a lot of Hollywood stuff lately and adding in Chinese sections. And of course they, and Taiwan, have their own history of innovative and popular films. Okay so maybe you just don't care about movies. That's fine. You should've heard of Taiwan because of its geopolitical importance. It is a disputed place- China claims it is part of itself. Taiwanese people mostly say no. But it is divided over whether to be an independent country or to continue in its present state of dependence on China. Taiwan is ruled by the past government that ruled China before the Communists took over there in 1950. If the western countries and China were ever to get into a war, Taiwan may be the triggering excuse. But of course, maybe history or international relations is not something you care about either. Maybe you couldn't care less about anything except music- art and film, culture, history, it's all ever so boring to you. That's fine, I guess. Maybe you only care about being a music writer and listening to music. Fine. In that case, you should've read the other articles about Grimes and realized Aristophanes was from Taiwan and was speaking... Mandarin Chinese. Like other people wrote in their articles. Not Thai, dude. You claim to be a professional writer. People like you are exactly why other white people who aren't as stupid are getting called out for shit increasingly with Jiang Qing-like fervor (you don't know about Jiang Qing- that's what Wikipedia is for). You obviously didn't give any thought to researching. You assumed you knew more than you did. Bad writing. Potentially good (I love Joni too, although I have a feeling if you frequent this Reddit, you only decided to compare her to Joni because you read what the Vice writer said and what I said about Joni), but bad writing, because factual errors like that are inexcusable.

Also, you missed out on not seeing her live, and it is ridiculous to celebrate the fact you missed out by making rockist assumptions what is a good live performance and claiming (without seeing her) that she isn't. Her live show is raw, real and incendiary. It involves playing, singing and inspiring the crowd to a collective dance party. Grimes was the best live show I ever went to- way better than Radiohead or Thom Yorke (saw them twice) or Sigur Ros or Modest Mouse. Who cares what she is doing or not doing. She throws herself into the gig. Maybe you are afraid of not fitting in at her shows and that's also not legit. I was a 29 year old white male when Visions came out and I felt perfectly comfortable in the diverse and open minded Grimes crowd. Everyone was dancing and happy for the moment, "being a body."

Let me also suggest a correction of your article title- you don't "go deep into Art Angels." You go deep into yourself and what Grimes means to you. That's fine and it makes for decent reading (factual errors aside) but it isn't really about Art Angels and what it means. No critic has yet gone "deep into Art Angels", in truth.
