What I discovered in my rewatch of In The Mood for Love. 20th Anniversary viewing

Until a month ago, In the Mood For Love was I believe the most prominent film released in the 21st century that I had not seen. Admittedly, I went into it with sky high expectations. Obviously, never ever a good way to watch something for the first time. I saw a clever story, beautifully told, with some exceptional moments and of course, stunning, creative, and oft imitated cinematography. I saw absolutely nothing that merits putting it in conversation with (lets use the BBCs top 20 list) There Will Be Blood, The White Ribbon, Children of Men, The Act of Killling, etc etc. I believe there is so much more to unpack in those films. What am I missing friends?!?! I was so sure I was firing up a new favorite...
