What exactly is Obamacare and why is it hated? What effects has it had on America?

Unfortunately, the people who didn't have healthcare before and want it are those who cost the most to care for. People who were healthy didn't want to pay for it when they don't need it.

Before Obamacare anyone with a pre-existing condition could be turned down for any reason. People who needed relatively inexpensive medication to treat serious diseases were denied. Also, most perfectly healthy people who weren't employed or didn't have coverage through their employer couldn't begin to afford health care before. Obamacare's intent is to remedy that.

I'm 50, and have some medical conditions. I've had insurance before, and it wasn't terribly expensive. Recently, I lost my job, and I was forced to buy my own insurance. Getting insurance similar to what I had before costs me about $1000 per month. This isn't as good as what I did have, but it is the closest I could purchase.

You wouldn't be able to afford any medical insurance without Obamacare, because your pre-existing conditions would have disqualified you.

People in the US don't like paying for the expenses of other people, unless we consider it 'charitable'.

Medicare isn't charitable, it's a ponzi scheme, and the millenials will lose out big time because of it. How is that any better than Obamacare?

My point is it is a compromise, but we don't have anything even remotely better in place, and if it gets abolished a lot of decent, hard-working people will be in trouble.
