What fact is common knowledge to people who work in your field, but almost unknown to the rest of the population?

I work in visual effects in film - the public thinks there's an unlimited amount of time, money and talent to throw at a project and that directors know everything. They also don't realize that a film getting finished is an absolute miracle and changes are made constantly.

A good example - I won't say the film or director but it was part of a massive franchise - I worked 6 months on several SEQUENCES (consisting of at least 60 shots / sequence) and with a month to go to delivery the director cut those sequences and we literally made the film in 1 month.

The public would not know this - they would complain about "the CGI" (which no one in the industry calls it - VFX or CG is the industry term) but otherwise had no idea what they ended up seeing on screen was literally thrown together in a month.
