Mexico City is the largest and most populous city in the continent (21 million...the next largest is New York City at 8 million), and its residents are relatively much wealthier than the rest of Mexico (it has the highest per capita income in Mexico @ USD$45,000, compared to USD$10,000 for the rest of the country). Mexico City has an indoor stadium that can hold an NHL hockey game.

It’s pretty racist/classist to believe that Mexican sports fans wouldn’t be interested or able to afford to watch NHL hockey, or that hockey can’t grow in Mexico, despite the country having 18 indoor rinks, over 1,500 registered players, and being a full member of the IIHF for over 30 years. Mexicans take great pride in famous people that have Mexican ancestry, and they’ll certainly love Papi and Patches playing in Mexico.

The NFL has played in Mexico before. NFL tickets cost an arm and a leg, and somehow they were able to fill the stadium, considering American football is niche in Mexico. Care to explain that?
