What has gotten more futuristic, but in a bad dystopian way?

This is gonna sound odd, but weddings in the US (Other places too but I have more knowledge of the US). we have created an entire new and modern culture around it and I find it odd how many don't see it.

The average wedding in the united states costs $33K and most people go into debt for it.

The reason I think it is dystopian is just how it keeps gaining momentum as a tradition. Sure people have done away with a lot of traditions in favor for equality and practicality but this tradition just keeps gaining force. Companies have caught on to the fairytale and many modern wedding day elements were inspired by advertisers trying to create a market. The whole concept of the diamond engagement ring was a retail ad by De Beers jewelers in 1947.

People no longer just throw a party and receive gifts. They have tons and tons of details that they purchase on etsy and a digital selection of the gifts they want. Couples pay tons of money to document the ceremony visually and I have seen mutual friends obsessively post the pictures years later in little birthday posts or other excuses to use it. I find it odd how the tradition is kept alive so well, just now with more modern (and expensive) add ons to a very simple concept. People have come to expect certain things that have slowly morphed into a very cookie cutter ideal, expertly formatted by businesses ensuring that the ideal is the most profitable for them.
