What movie do you like that sucks ?

I'm pretty obsessed with the digimon movie.

But I'm fully aware that it sucks as a movie, if you've never watched the TV show you have absolutely no idea what's going on.

To make matters worse it was never intended to be one movie, instead it was made up of three movies that were almost completely unrelated to each other.

The first being Digimon Adventure (20 minutes long) which was attached to another movie and introduced the TV show.

this was actually a pretty faithful dub and it was left almost entirely intact

It featured two young kids waking up to find an egg escaping from their computer and it evolving to several different stages of a dinosaur, eventually fighting a giant parrot and levelling their city district and disappearing.

It would later be referred to as a terrorist attack though nobody takes credit.

Our War Game! 40 minutes

almost entirely intact but some changes were made that were arguably for the better, in the original the digimon rampaging over the internet eating data and causing absolute havoc is heavily implied to be the Y2K bug where as in the dub a digidestined was trying to create a digimon from scratch (where as all other digimon were random parts of unused data that came together to form a being and a digital world) which goes horribly wrong.

Obviously keeping it as the Y2K bug would have seriously dated the film.

The movie was also brilliant because the stakes had never been higher than this, this new digimon is seriously over powered to the point that two top level digimon can't take it down, hampered still by the fact that everyone in the world is sending them messages of support through the internet (where their fighting the bad guy) but the messages are acting like a denial of service attack completely slowing them down.

The human counterparts are trying to spread the message asking everyone to stop but its completely hopeless because they just cant reach everyone in time.

To make matters oh so much worse the evil digimon has managed to take control of several nuclear warheads and is preparing to drop them on Tokyo.

Eventually the two mega level digimon manage (with the help of their human partners) to absorb those message of support that were destroying them and use the energy to turn into an even more powerful digimon that's able to kill the evil digimon just before it plans to detonate the nukes.

A shut down nuke drops in a nearby lake just outside of the digidestined apartment and the music cue hits in, the impression that I get by the mighty, mighty bosstones. (in the english dub).

Then finally theres the third part of the movie Hurricane Touchdown / Digimon Hurricane Landing!!/Transcendent Evolution!! The Golden Digimentals

This was originally 65 minutes long but was cut down to 35 minutes and is easily the worst part of the movie.

First it has to introduce a brand new set of characters and age up two from the previous films, if you'd seen the show you'd be extremely familiar with who they were because the season would be over.

They were the digidestined the second generation, but if you'd only seen the movie you'd had no idea who they were nor care.

Second an entire section was cut, the evil digimon in this film has a virus and is looking for its partner so it starts kidnapping all of the digidestined (along with just about everybody near them) and pulling them into a bubble dimension then aging them backwards to reach a point when he last remembered them (so many got from 12 years old to 8, an 8 year old goes back to 4).

They cut it for time but the problem is they don't really explain it in the film so you end up with an odd section where two digidestined are on a train only to experience everyone around them disappear (including the driver) and its not explained why it happens or how they get off the train and back to civilisation (its in the middle of nowhere america on a bridge).

Worse they actually tried to recut some of the fight scenes but because of the nature of the show some of the monsters evolved into a different bigger monster then it would suddenly cut back to their earlier smaller version of themselves and then back again meaning the whole scene made next to no sense.

The problem was they were never meant to be one movie so they had to awkwardly create a plot that wasn't there and rely on narration, it was released at the height of the shows popularity and it was purely created to compete with pokemons success at the box office.

If they'd had just dubbed the movies as is and released them as straight to DVD or build them up as a must see tv moment everything would have been fine, instead we were left with an awkward mess of three really great movies.
