My Mom and I were window shopping and she wanted us to go in some old-lady lingerie store. Growing up, she always said weird shit to me about "nighties" and "feeling sexy" when I was way too old for it to be awkward but I knew she was uptight and religious, so whatever.

So this one time we go in (I'm in my late twenties) and I brace myself for her "teehee's" at bras and housecoats. She of course is nervously hovering near some silk nighties as if sinning by being in a BDSM dungeon or some shit that she doesn't even know exists. Refusing to touch anything and staring a bit too hard at the naughty old lady bras that, gasp, have lace.

Then she does her weird thing she does where she tries to ask about my sex life with my husband. I give vague, short replies and try not to roll my eyes because she can't actually say any dirty words like sex, penis, breast.

Suddenly she goes over to a black teddy (it is a type of lingerie like a lace swimsuit), and to my horror, suddenly gets all cold and shuts down and says very upset that my father had once brought home something like that as a gift and he had wanted her to wear it, and how she had been so shocked that she had cried for days. How she had never realised he had such a dark sinful side to him and how she could never look at him the same after that. Then tries to go on about how she can never wear red again...

I cut her off and said oh my god mother what in the hell? She gets all huffy saying she is just trying to share about womanly things...she didn't have a clue that I meant "get therapy for your sexual repression" instead of "ew don't talk about sex".

I did NOT need to feel pity for my Dad's sex life /shudder. And she is talking about the 90's, not 1920.
