What do very few people realize isn't actually pointless?

Do not over compliment in the office. We just had someone leave my workplace who was absolutely obnoxious with the complimenting. Complimenting on our makeup, our jewelry, our clothes, our shoes, talking about what we wore yesterday. If a man were to make the same commentary that she was, he would find himself in HR faster than anything.

Compliments are like hugs. Not everyone wants a hug. Not everyone likes to be touched, and not everyone likes it when you keep talking about what they’re wearing. A compliment every here and there is fine, but making it a point to compliment everyone, and often... that is inappropriate workplace behavior.
