What video games were successful in other countries, but despite expectations, just never made it big in the U.S. and/or were considered too niche or too gory/raunchy etc.?

My favorite JRPG, Xenoblade 1, never originally was to be released in the West, it took Operation Rainfall for that to occur. Now with the definitive edition releasing in May the collector's version is noticeably different between the NA and EU versions (top US, bottom EU) showing Nintendo's expectations for US vs elsewhere sales.

In the Ace Attorney Series Investigations 2 and the Dai Gakuten Saiban spin off games have never been localized. While the latter can be explained by copyright issues with Sherlock Homes, the former just never got localized, despite it widely being considered a really good game and its prequel having gotten localized.
