Yeah. telling people not to listen to old people is awful advice. I'd bet a lot the person who said that above is still young himself. The most successful people are the ones who have the most guidance from older people growing up, usually their father, but there's no reason it can't be other people. The thing is most young people think they know everything and don't listen. Anything you tell them that doesn't fit into their world view, they instantly find reasons to dismiss it and say things like "the world has changed!" and old people know this so they usually don't bother giving advice. The real smart thing to do would be to find successful people you admire and ask them for advice or try to get them to be a mentor to you.
