I worked in a gynaecology clinic within a hospital. A patient who came to see us for an IUD insertion. Upon clicking the speculum open the most disgusting stench swamped the room. She was post medical abortion, and had been using tampons. One of which was still inside her. 3 weeks after insertion. When the doctor took it out with forceps the thick goo slopped out and onto the bed. Black, brown, and chunky. She said she had noticed a smell and weird discharge but had avoided being seen because of some insurance issue. That was one of only 2 times I nearly vomited in that job and part of my job was assisting with abortions so I'm not squeamish at all. I've dug around bags of foetuses to sort things for pathology and had to pick spines and limbs out of the tubes of the vacuum. People delaying medical treatment because of insurance issues always is sad. The US health system is the worst.
